iOS 8 Bug - Rebooting iPhone - Unicode in iMessage

Image
This morning, one of my colleagues received an iMessage text from one of his friends with the following content: “ effective. Power لُلُصّبُلُلصّبُررً ॣ ॣh ॣ ॣ 冗 “ Little did he know that receiving this text would shut down his iPhone. I mean…come on…who’s to tell that something as simple as a text message can have such consequences? He obviously panicked and thought it was some sort of security breach. I was the only security nerd (really?) he knew I guess because he immediately forwarded the text over to me and caused my iPhone to shut down haha. Now with my curiosity aroused, I definitely had to check what was going on. Having been in the industry for so long, I knew the iPhone was not that easily prone to breaches and took a closer look at the message content,  Analyzing the bits, hexes and everything and anything,  I turned to our dear friend Google and viola! It looks like this text message has been doing the rounds quite a bit. This looks like iOS8 bug i

Net Neutrality? I don’t think so

Image
There’s been a lot of interest around “Net Neutrality” that all the coverage news channels these days. Before understanding what “Net Neutrality” is, I think the bigger question is – “What is the Internet really?” Sounds like a pretty simple question; isn't it? I can hear all you people saying “Who does this guy think he is…asking us if we know what the internet is!?”. Simply put, the Internet in all its glory has seeped into every possible communication medium/device like our desktop devices, mobile phones, phablets, tablets, laptops and with no restrictions whatsoever. It doesn’t matter how we use the internet bandwidth or for what kind of application we use it for. Irrespective of how it is used, the subscribed bandwidth is one and the same. Even more interesting is the fact that the internet subscriber pays only for the bandwidth and not for how the bandwidth is used. That’s right…I am trying to make a point about the recent request internet providers in In

Enterprise Mobile Application Security

Newer and more powerful mobile devices are introduced into the market each day.  This combined with the ever-expanding reach the Internet is having on us has not only changed the way enterprises do business but has also altered our lifestyle. For Enterprise solutions, all this translates to a better user satisfaction, increased revenue and improved productivity. But of course, where there’s a pro, there’s definitely bound to be a con.  We don’t have to be Peter Parker to understand Uncle Ben’s word - “With great power comes with great responsibility”. Building a mobile application for an Enterprise brings great benefits to organization but requires even greater attention towards implementing stronger security measures to protect the users. I’ve started paying more attention than ever before after the recent security attacks on tech giants like PayPal, eBay, Sony and consumer biggies like Target. Some of the things that are constantly running on my mind these days are, how a
