After some thorough research and discussing with experts in the field, I’ve put together a comprehensive guide to help you navigate this journey.

The time it takes for an average student to gain proficiency—or even expertise—in Artificial Intelligence (AI) depends on several factors, including:

  • Prior Knowledge: Students with a strong foundation in mathematics, basic AI concepts, Machine Learning (ML), and Deep Learning will generally progress faster than those starting from scratch.
  • Learning Style: Whether you’re learning part-time, full-time, or through an intensive course will impact how quickly you master AI concepts.
  • Study Approach: The method you choose for learning—whether self-study, formal classes, tutoring, or using online courses and textbooks—can affect how efficiently you absorb and understand the material.
  • Depth of Mastery: The level of expertise you aim to achieve matters. Whether you're looking to grasp the basics or develop deep, theoretical knowledge will influence how much time you need to invest.

With these factors in mind, here’s a rough estimate of the time an average student might need to become a competent AI developer, presented in a helpful tabular format:

For a recent engineering graduate or an experienced developer transitioning into AI, dedicating 12 hours a day for 5 to 7 months with unwavering focus can pave the way to becoming an expert AI developer, fully prepared to excel in any technical interview.
